“Women make tougher films”, claimed Ukrainian director Kira Muratova. For Isa Willinger, this statement serves as a sort of research question to make a documentary on the representation of power and violence in cinema. Through several interviews, and illustrated with numerous film sequences, this question is discussed with various female/non-binary filmmakers and develops into deeper conversations about power dynamics and gender equality in film. In a heavily male-dominated industry, this essay documentary offers queer-feminist perspectives that surely spark further debate – and not just among filmmakers.
