On January 31, 1972, I secretly watched Rosa von Praunheim’s film on TV, which was broadcast late at night only by the regional broadcaster WDR. The national ARD network had refused to air it across Germany. Back then at 14, I didn’t understand much of it, but 20 years later I invited Rosa to be interviewed for my own film, which also happens to have a very long title. Rosa was a role model for me and truly an icon of gay cinema. With this small three-part homage, we want to celebrate Rosa von Praunheim and his body of work. In recent years, Rosa was a regular guest at the Pornfilmfestival Berlin with his new films. We miss him – and the new films he never got to make.

In this film, he invites Rosa von Praunheim, the iconic figure of German gay cinema, to reflect on gay subculture, while counterpointing his observations with the voices of gay strippers in San Francisco, who speak candidly about their work and their trade. The result is a compelling, amusing and deeply human cinematic miniature.
