Mahx Capacity is already a familiar name at PFFB; first appearing in 2019 and annually since 2021 (2022 as “Filmmaker in Focus”), Mahx has presented radically queer indie porn films through their own production company, AORTA. Haunted (written by award-winning author Carmen Maria Machado) is their first feature to be shot largely in the Dogme style – a mystery-drama-porn that defies gender and body norms and portrays sexuality as warm, pleasurable, uninhibited and charged with tension. The search for the kinky ghost that visits Eli at night and makes them tremble soon fades into the background. Because ultimately, the film is “about what ghosts mean – not about whether they exist or not”.
