Être vu (Seen)

Film program, FR 2024, 160 min., frz. OV + engl. UT
By: Bynone
With: Bynone, Gaudéric Maléjac, Gaëlle Hostetteler
Homeless in Paris after spending everything on a low-budget film, queer undocumented filmmaker Bynone tracks down a former partner to obtain consent for an explicit scene they once shot together. As they revisit the footage, old hierarchies, racialized power dynamics, and unresolved desire resurface – and the boundary between the film-within-the-film and the film itself dissolves. A black-and-white meditation on desire, migration, race, class, and what it means to be seen, with a Godardian eye and the existential weight of an outsider who knows Paris from the inside out. These 160 film minutes are not always easy.
