Decades after her mysterious disappearance, the countess has awakened in modern-day Vienna after a long beauty sleep. This is no coincidence. She is on a quest not only for fresh blood, but also for the elixir of life and for a book that threatens the entire vampire realm. Accompanied by her maid, she makes her way through the city. But hot on her heels are her vegetarian nephew, two vampirologists, a chief inspector, and other eccentric characters. The film is an extravagant mixture of fact and myth, staged with striking visuals to create a unique vision of the vampire that combines comedy, fantasy, eroticism, and thriller.
