Paris, not chic and polished but dirty, kinky, and uncompromising: Alien Nation depicts a subculture in which fetish, BDSM, techno, and performance became a way of life in the French capital around the turn of the millennium. With impressive DIY costumes, latex, stilettos, and radical body styling, the collective celebrated visibility, desire, and transgression. Drawing on archival footage and contemporary testimonies, the film dives into a cultural underground where political statement, female desire, transgression, and freedom were lived out. Campy, sexy, and smart, Delphine Sanchez opens a view of a Paris beyond traditional romance.
