When Hanna first travels to San Francisco from her small Swedish hometown, she immediately falls in love with the atmosphere and vibrancy of the city’s queer scene. When she meets Chloe and Cyd, both sex workers, at a party, she decides to work as a sex worker out of curiosity about her sexual desires. The long-distance relationship with her Swedish girlfriend becomes increasingly complicated and poses major problems for both. In a mixture of private video recordings and gritty, poetic images, “Labor” reflects Hanna’s inner process of finding herself and her struggle between sexual self-determination and life in her rather puritanical homeland.
