Au Coeur du Bois (Ladies of the Wood)

Director Claus Drexel positions his camera at different spots in the famous Bois de Boulogne park in Paris, for intimate conversations with the sex workers who are offering their services there. The simplicity of the camera set-up enhances the different voices and gives them the respect they are due. At the same time it shows the complexity behind their anecdotes and the performativity of the interviewees. Imaginative and serious at the same time, the protagonists tell their stories, share their experiences and present themselves in the middle of Paris, their city that however sees them as outsiders.
