Vedettes are part of Latin American cultural imagery, mainly due to the tradition of revue and live performances, but also due to cinema. In Mexico, these women were very well known from the cine de ficheras, or Mexican sexy comedy. Maria José Cueva’s documentary accompanies Wanda Seux, Lyn May, Olga Bresskin, Princess Yamal and Rossy Mendoza, five of Mexico’s greatest vedettes in the 1970s and 1980s. As artists that never ceased to be, the ladies undress emotionally in front of the camera in a film that portrays an important history of Mexican popular culture while discussing the oppression of the beauty myth over older female bodies.
