“Last Exit Gran Canaria” is a provocative documentary by Tim Lienhard, who at the age of 64 undertakes a trip to the Yumbo Centre on Gran Canaria in grotesquely hypersexualised drag. In this auto-fictional essay, he reflects on age, sexuality and self-esteem in the queer scene, which is often characterised as youth obsessed. Peppered with interviews with gay men over 50 and funny, self-composed songs, the film advocates an open examination of sexuality and identity and, with unapologetic. candor, delivers a fierce plea for self-determination and freedom in increasingly regressive times.
