Postcard to Daddy
Special, DE 2010, 85 min., deutsche OV + engl. UT
By: Michael Stock
In cooperation with the Schwules Museum Berlin, and in the context of their exhibition “Coming to Terms with the Past: Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents in the Name of Emancipation”, the festival screens the film “Postcard to Daddy”, which premiered at the Berlinale in 2010. In his autobiographical documentary, Berlin filmmaker Michael Stock processes his own history and the sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of his father between the ages of eight and 16.
Almost 25 years later, he confronts his family about this past on camera. The resulting video message is sent to his father in the form of a documentary film. Despite the inconceivable trauma, “Postcard to Daddy” is not marked by hate, but by hope and love for life. Michael Stock does not seek to accuse but to understand.
Filmmaker Michael Stock and Volker Woltersdorff (co-curator of the exhibition) will lead a discussion with the audience after the film.
