One of the best traditions at the Pornfilmfestival Berlin each year is showing a new work by Malga Kubiak. In her film “Lucia” she highlights the life of lesbian Lucia Joyce, the daughter of the famous writer James Joyce. Malga Kubiak’s films are as extensive as James Joyce’s novels. Opulent image compositions are filled with improvised play scenes and presented in an elaborate montage. Malga Kubiak and her followers stage episodes from the life of Lucia Joyce, whose sexuality was repressed and restricted by a lobotomy. A restless cinematic work that takes us on a journey whose course cannot be guessed.
