My Name Is Andrea

By: Pratibha Parmar
With: Amandla Stenberg, Soko, Ashley Judd, Christine Lahti, Andrea Dworkin
A film about the biggest porn hater ever at the Pornfilmfestival? In this intelligent and empathetic doc the enemy no. 1 of sex positive activists becomes a human being. Andrea Dworkin – controversial feminist writer, public intellectual and collaborator of German feminist Alice Schwarzer in the “PorNo” campaign – was full of hate for men, porn and sex work. British film maker Pratibha Parmar shows impressively and profoundly how hatred arises and how clever feminist theories can turn into devious political strategies. By means of great reenactment scenes – with a mind-blowing cast – and original archival material showing Dworkin’s in all the ups and downs of her difficult life, Parmar is painting a picture of this smart but failed personality, that excuses nothing, but allows us to understand a lot.
