Klappe (Tearoom)
Film program, DE 2022, 64 min., int. OV + engl. UT
By: Jürgen Brüning
With: Susanne Sachsse, Bridge Markland
We are happy to welcome director Jürgen Brüning at the Pornfilmfestival.
A homo-political musical-collage remix that deals with personal and political issues in an exemplary way. Relentlessly and freely associating, porn producer and festival organizer Jürgen Brüning takes stock of (his) gay life.
Shamelessly, Jürgen Brüning samples and remixes clips and scraps of material from his own work as a director and producer (among others for Bruce LaBruce & Shu Lea Cheang) with borrowed pop cultural references from around the world for this video essay on gay identity. His reflections are connected by songs that address miscellaneous news and social issues with egalitarian verve, sung by hot guys in a public toilet. The rousing songs have been written and composed by Claudia Fierke, Stefan Kuschner and Matthias Köninger. A film full of meandering associations and unexplained references, it’s at the same time a political musical and the taking stock of a romantic revolutionary.
Originally written and partly shot in 2006, “Klappe” (meaning public toilet or “tea room”) was put on hold because Brüning’s producer life was simply too busy for directing his own projects. The break brought about by the pandemic allowed him and his editor Jörn Hartmann a new approach to the project. Matured and evolved, with new influences and themes, it has become an indescribably idiosyncratic film. Anti-religious, anti-authoritarian and somehow also a bit anti-everything!

Supporting film: Die Schlangenknaben – Wir Schwestern (We Sisters)

Wir are happy to welcome the Schlangenknaben Team at the Pornfilmfestival.
Berlin queer feminist performance band “Die Schlangenknaben” (The Snake Boys) have covered “Die Schwestern” (The Sisters), a lied by Johannes Brahms and turned it into a morbid feast for the eyes. The queer music world often overlooks classical music. These three genderfluid drag kings appropriate male dominated cultural history and joyfully flog that dead horse.
