The part of Brazil where Sandro leads his monotonous life is extremely dry. His purely sexual relationship with Ricardo changes, when he hooks up with newcomer Maicon, who looks like he came straight from a Tom Of Finland comic. Harboring a burgeoning feeling of jealousy, outsider Sandro is going through a change. Sober images of Sandro’s work environment are contrasted with his elaborately staged and dreamlike sex fantasies: tableaux vivants of men in rubber and leather with the fetishistic polished chrome of motorcycles.
Director Daniel Nolasco’s documentary “Mr. Leather” (Pornfilmfestival 2019) about the small Brazilian leather scene comes to mind as an obvious source of inspiration and cast for “Vento Seco”. The result is a mix of sobriety and artificial exaggeration, the film feels like a hot, dusty summer supercharged with male bodies full of sexual desire and passion.
