Sexo y Revolución (Sex and Revolution)
Film program, AR 2021, 104 min., span. OV + engl. UT
By: Ernesto Ardito
Beginning in the early 1970s, Argentina’s Homosexual Liberation Front and other LGBTQ* activists fought against the imprisonment and torture of homosexuals in their country guided by a progressive leftwing agenda – anti-capitalist, anti-patriarchal, anti-homophobia. Ernesto Ardito’s rousing documentary dives into one of history’s most revolutionary gay rights movements as it steamrolls through the turmoil of 1970s Argentinian politics, the AIDS crisis and into the 1990s.
Another perspective on queer life and filmmaking in Argentina can be seen in Goyo Anchou’s “El triunfo de Sodoma”, a louder and wilder companion piece to “Sexo y Revolución” in this year’s Pornfilmfestival.
