Join us for a juicy chat about ecosexuality, filmmaking and their new book “Assuming the Ecosexual Position” with Annie Sprinkle & Beth Stephens!
Annie Sprinkle & Beth Stephens have been life partners for 20 years and live with their dog Butch in San Francisco. In 2008 they married the Earth as a performance art happening and launched the Ecosexual Movement with a manifesto. They have been doing projects exploring the Earth as their lover. Sprinkle made over 100 XXX-rated films from 1974 to 1995, and has appeared in dozens of documentaries, B movies, and independent arty films. Beth Stephens grew up in West Virginia, but moved to New York to pursue an art career. After making art about queer identity during the culture wars in the 90s, she left for a professorship at UC Santa Cruz where she continues to teach today.
They co-directed their last film, “Water Makes Us Wet: An Ecosexual Adventure”, about the pleasures and politics of water through an ecosexual gaze. Career highlights include when their water film screened at NY MoMA, when they performed “Wedding to the Sea” in the Venice Biennale, and being documenta 14 artists. They just won a Guggenheim grant for their next feature film, “Playing with Fire”. They are thrilled with their new book, “Assuming the Ecosexual Position” which details their epic love story and their ecosexy art/life adventures.
