Montreal in deep winter. Cranes rotate over the city center like in a ballet and work tirelessly for a booming new development area. Two strangers meet by chance in an unfinished apartment. An encounter that escalates into a wild relationship, physically and mentally, an affair beyond reason. Micha is a Russian-born tightrope artist whose career is threatened by a broken leg. Christophe is obviously rich, attractive and successful, at least at first sight. Who dominates? Who manipulates? Love is painful and human relationships are complex. “The Acrobat” is a visually stunning gay variation on Bertolucci’s “The Last Tango in Paris”, in which the urban architecture of snowy Montreal becomes the third protagonist.
