Queer directors Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon won the Berlin Film Festival’s queer award for best film with their second feature film TINTA BRUTA, which marks the pair’s evident maturity in directing. The film tells the story of Peter, a young man who supports himself as a webcam performer doing shows smeared in neon paint that glows in the dark. We feel on screen the amount of research that went into developing the script and it is very interesting to see a young gay man as the protagonist, considering that the camming universe is usually portrayed in film and television through female performers. The issues that revolve around the protagonist however still flirt with typical teenage dilemmas such as bullying, loneliness and social ostracization. The highlights are the beautiful, yet dirty cinematography and great soundtrack.
